3 ways I will use this blog
Assignment 1: Describe 3 ways I can use this blog:
1. At the start of each trimester, I welcome in 90 new students to STEM class. One of the first units of instruction is an introduction to the engineering design process (EDS). I give a brief overview of the process, then assign a digital presentation project where students have to research at least 3 sources on the EDS, and then create a digital presentation that informs the audience (me and the class) what the steps are. I give them some ideas such as powerpoint, prezi, slideshows, and now, Voki! I do this to get a sense of where they are at with regards to using media and presentation tools. The blog will useful because I will include the steps (of the EDP) as a resource for students to refer to, as well as other resources that I want the students to tap into.
2. Another purpose of the blog is to post reflection questions after a lab or unit. For example, we do a STEM Fair that has a 3 week prep, and the top 3 finishers are nominated to the STEMMY Awards, held at the end of the school year. I will use the blog to post reflection questions for students to comment on, and to post observations of each group project.
3. I can also see the use of a Blog in my role as Technology Specialist, where I can post my own reflections and motivations of current uses of technology within my classroom. If I invite other teachers in the district to follow me, I can create a PLC, and use the blog as a main source of communication and collaboration.
